Affton Names 2019-2020 Teachers of the YearJennifer Molsbee, fifth-grade teacher at Gotsch Intermediate School, has been named Affton School District’s 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year.

At an awards ceremony on April 18, Molsbee was awarded the honor. Each Affton school also named a Teacher of the Year for their building. They include Natalie Hake for Mesnier Primary; Molsbee at Gotsch Intermediate; Cindy Hernandez at Rogers Middle; and Gina Stewart at Affton High School.

“It is rewarding when our district comes together to celebrate our colleagues being recognized for their contributions to the profession,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “I am inspired by Jenn’s ability to individualize learning while forming lasting relationships with each of her students and their families. I am confident that she will represent the best of Affton.”

Jennifer Molsbee, 2019-20 District Teacher of the YearMolsbee has been teaching in Affton for seven years and served as a teacher assistant for two years prior. She holds a masters in technology and bachelor of science in elementary and early childhood education. On the application for Teacher of the Year, one of Molsbee's colleagues states, “Mrs. Molsbee has an innate ability to modify work for children in need. She works beyond school hours to find ideas and lessons that will benefit her students.”

Molsbee believes that her most significant professional accomplishment has been creating meaningful and lasting relationships with her students while providing them with a safe space to learn.

“Each school year I like to tell the students they have a fresh start from day one,” says Molsbee. “They have a chance to make a name for themselves, to start anew. If they had a difficult third- or fourth-grade year, this year with me is their opportunity to grow and garner a new reputation. If they have had a stellar school career up to this point, this year with me is their year to explore new avenues and become an even greater, more well-rounded student.”

Hake, the Mesnier Primary School Teacher of the Year, has worked in the Affton School District for 26 years and is currently a first-grade teacher.

Hernandez, the Rogers Middle School Teacher of the Year, has been teaching in the Affton School District for 19 years and currently teaches English language arts to sixth-grade students.
