Chris Kappler Named Director of ActivitiesOn Tues., March 12, the Affton School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Chris Kappler as Director of Activities for the 2019-2020 school year.

“We involved staff, coaches, students, and parents in the decision-making process, and Chris was the clear choice as the best fit for the position,” said Dr. Travis Bracht, superintendent. “He brings not only his experience but a vision and natural energy for how our athletic and extracurricular programs can grow and evolve to meet the needs of even more students. I am excited to welcome his considerable skills and talents to the Affton family.”

Kappler’s extensive experience in school activities includes his role as varsity soccer coach since 2003, where his teams were Missouri Class 3 Boys Soccer State Champions in 2016 and Missouri Class 3 Girls Soccer State Champions in 2018. He has served on the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) soccer advisory committee, chaired the Officer Nicholas Sloan Memorial Scholarship program, and was integral in establishing the “026 Army,” a student booster group at Rockwood Summit. In addition to his athletic experience, Kappler has served as a health, driver education, and physical education teacher at Rockwood Summit High School in Fenton, Mo., since 2007.  He also taught science and physical education at the middle school level for eleven years.

“I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to be coming home to South County and becoming a part of the Affton community,” said Kappler. “I look forward to joining in Affton’s long-standing traditions and working with staff to engage all Affton students in meaningful extracurricular opportunities.”

Kappler earned a bachelor of science in education from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo., a master of science in education from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., as well as a masters in educational administration from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

Kappler grew up in Mehlville and currently resides in Fenton, Mo. He has two sons who attend Southeast Missouri State University: Caleb, a junior business major, and Nate, a sophomore cybersecurity major. Kappler loves to run half-marathons with his wife, Aimee, a physical therapist with Special School District (SSD), watch Blues and Cardinal games, attend as many summer concerts as possible, and take long summer vacations in national parks throughout the country.

Kappler will begin serving as Director of Activities on July 1. He replaces Dan Oliver, athletic director, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
