2018 Negotiations AgreementThe Affton Education Association (AEA) and Affton School District Board of Education are pleased to have reached an agreement and plan for moving forward together in a spirit of cooperation and open communication.

The four-year agreement signed by both parties represents the effort from AEA, the Board of Education, and administration to reach consensus and do what is in the best interest of Affton. During this process, both sides remained focused on upholding Affton’s mission to prepare all students to become confident and capable citizens through rigorous, customized learning.

AEA members voted in support of the contract on Fri., April 6, and the Affton Board of Education approved it at their meeting on Tues., April 17.

Details of the agreement over salary and other working conditions include:

1. Affton School District and the AEA will enter a contract with an updated salary schedule, which includes an increase of three percent for each of the next four years, as well as a one-time cash payment of $1,500 paid during the 2018-2019 school year for any full-time teacher returning from the 2017-2018 school year. The agreement runs from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2022, and will replace the current agreement which expires on June 30, 2018.

2. Professional stipends and extracurricular pay will continue to be offered to and will be increased for qualifying staff.

3. A teacher attendance incentive will be increased to $250 per semester for teachers who do not take a sick day and no more than one personal day per semester, or $500 for teachers who do not take more than two personal days per year. If a teacher does not use any sick or personal days, the teacher will earn an additional $500 for a total of $1,000.

4. An early separation incentive will be offered in the 2017-2018 school year in the amount of three years of insurance benefits or one $25,000 payment. The incentive will be offered only to certified staff who have been with the Affton School District for 20 or more years.
